China News Service, Shaoxing, February 14 (Reporter Xiang Jing) How does the huge stay local for the Spring Festival team collide with consumption, especially the nighttime economy?
Visiting ancient towns, admiring lantern shows… In the past few days, Hamza BENATMANE from Morocco with his foreign friends have experienced a “Chinese New Year”, he said, “Chinese traditional lantern shows are not only beautiful but also rich in culture. I like it very much.”
Hamza BENATMANE has been in China for 5 years. He has traveled to Shanghai, Hangzhou, and other cities. Two years ago, by chance, he came to “Asia’s largest textiles fabric distribution center” located in Shaoxing Keqiao to start his business.
“This is the second Spring Festival I have spent in China. Last year, I was locked indoors because of the 2019-nCoV.This year I finally had the opportunity to come out and have a look. I felt the joy and festive of ‘Chinese New Year’ in the night.”
Traditional New Year Lantern shows, city light shows, night tours of scenic spots…Under the traditional Chinese New Year Festival and the strong atmosphere of advocating “stay local for the Spring Festival”, during the night, the city is full of brilliance, and “night mode” is turned on. Foreign workers living in various parts of China walked out of the room to admire the lights, pray for blessings, and play in the night, reflecting the strong flavor of the New Year and “stimulating” the nighttime economy of the New Year.
During the interview, Yang Jianhua, president of the Zhejiang Sociological Society, analyzed that hanging lanterns and watching lanterns have been traditional Chinese New Year customs since ancient times. In recent years, various places have advocated the development of the nighttime economy. At the same time, under the background of special epidemic prevention, more than 100 million people in China choose to celebrate the New Year locally. “The superposition of the above factors will naturally drive the growth of night-time consumption.”
Looking at China, the welcoming New Year light show on the pedestrian street of Shijingshan Gucheng South Road in Beijing is colorful, attracting many people to “check-in” and take group photos. along the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, the Lunar New Year theme lighting show was staged as scheduled, with electronic red envelopes and other new elements of the Spring Festival presented in light and shadow.
Visiting the West Lake, watching the Grand Canal, visiting the night market, and enjoying the light show, the Chongqing guy Song Qi, who stayed in Hangzhou for the Chinese New Year, started the “Hangzhou Seven-Day Tour”, he said, “I am busy with work on weekdays and take a break during this period of time, so I’m going to travel.”
The small county in the night is also full of new year flavors, and night consumption is hot.
The streets are full of small lanterns, the county square is colorful, and the shops along the street are lit for business… In Suichang County, southwestern Zhejiang, the small county town at night is decorated by lights. On the side of the county square alone, there are many “market stalls” such as simulated fishing, ring games, ceramic paintings, and late-night snacks.
“Because of work and epidemic prevention, this is the first time to celebrate the Chinese New Year outside.” At about 11 pm on the second day of the Lunar New Year, the 27-year-old Du Junkang and his girlfriend came to a barbecue booth and started the “night snack mode.
Although he did not return to his hometown, Du Junkang felt that he was not alone. Instead, he could experience the taste of a foreign country. “Compared with the daytime, the night in Suichang County is full of lights and colorful decorations, which is worth the sight. And there are so many people who come out to play at night. It’s a wonderful holiday atmosphere.”
In addition, as the “movie watching” of the “new folklore” of the Spring Festival, the “Spring Festival stalls” still show great explosive power in the context of epidemic prevention with limited attendance. According to data released by the National Film Administration of China, the box office of Chinese movies exceeded RMB 1.7 billion on the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar, breaking the single-day box office record set in 2019.
Yang Jianhua mentioned that during the Spring Festival, people who stay local for the Spring Festival took advantage of the excitement to go out of their homes, which gave birth to the development of flexible employment and drove the enthusiasm of the catering industry, tourism, and other related industries.
In addition to light and shadow technology lighting up the night, people spent and played in the night. In the general environment of epidemic prevention and control, many places in China use “black technologies” such as automatic temperature measurement systems and epidemic prevention robots to protect the nighttime economy and make people more secure during the holidays.
